For BSB Engineering, UK manufacturing has always been about more than where a product is made.
It is about maintaining close control over engineering, production and quality; keeping technical expertise close to the manufacturing process; and giving customers direct access to the people who understand the products they are specifying, installing and maintaining.
This October, that capability takes another step forward with the launch of the MFD-IC Motorised Fire Damper, BSB’s NEW insulated-blade fire damper, now manufactured at our facility in Aylesford, Kent.
The introduction of the MFD-IC expands BSB’s UK-manufactured fire damper range and gives consultants, contractors, installers and distribution partners access to an insulated solution backed directly by BSB’s engineering, production and technical teams.
Bringing manufacture into the UK also means that product knowledge doesn’t sit thousands of miles away from the customer. Engineering, manufacturing, quality, technical support and sales can work closely together, from initial specification through to supply and ongoing support.
For customers, that can mean clearer communication, accessible technical expertise and a more responsive route to the manufacturer when project-specific questions arise.

UK manufacture is not simply about geography. What matters is the control that sits behind the finished product.
At BSB, the MFD-IC moves through our own manufacturing and quality processes in Aylesford, supported by teams with extensive experience in air, fire and smoke control products.
That close relationship between engineering, production and quality helps ensure that what is manufactured reflects the product’s tested and classified performance.
And in passive fire protection, that distinction matters.
The MFD-IC has been developed specifically for applications where space is at a premium and has been subjected to fire testing across a range of supporting constructions.
The product is EIS tested to BS EN 1366-2, classified to BS EN 13501-3 and CE marked in accordance with BS EN 15650.
Depending upon the tested installation arrangement, the MFD-IC achieves classifications up to EI 90 S, with tested applications including drywall partitions, masonry walls and masonry floors.
That evidence is important because selecting a fire damper should never begin simply with a product name or headline performance figure. The required classification, supporting construction, installation arrangement and available test evidence all need to be considered for the particular application.

Technical performance is only part of the story.
The MFD-IC incorporates a pre-formed installation plate designed to act as a template for the fixing positions, helping support quick and efficient installation.
It also includes practical features such as an externally replaceable thermal fuse, external blade position indication, periodic test switch and an actuator that can be installed in three different positions to assist installation.
Available in diameters from 100mm to 315mm, the range has been developed to provide a practical insulated circular solution across a variety of applications.
Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of manufacturing in the UK is not something you’ll find on a datasheet. It’s access to the people behind the product.
BSB’s Area Sales Managers are available to meet customers and demonstrate the MFD-IC, while our technical team can support consultants and contractors with product selection, application and specification.
To support the launch, throughout October we’re also offering FREE UK shipping on MFD-IC orders for distributors and contractors, making it even easier to put the new product to work on your next project.*
For those looking to explore the technical considerations in more detail, our dedicated CPD covers insulated and non-insulated fire damper specification, while technical literature, installation information and specification resources are available online [and through NBS Source – subject to availability at publication].
So whether you want to see the product, specify it, understand the evidence or discuss a particular application, support is available directly from BSB.
The MFD-IC represents more than another addition to the BSB range.
It demonstrates why UK manufacturing continues to matter: engineering knowledge, manufacturing control, quality processes, technical expertise and customer support, all working together under one roof.
For BSB, Made in Britain isn’t simply something we put on the finished product.
It’s the people, knowledge and processes behind it.
