Passive Fire Protection at Eclipse Leisure Centre

BSB Engineering Services is proud to have contributed to the delivery of the new Eclipse Leisure Centre in Spelthorne – a modern, inclusive facility focused on wellbeing, sustainability, and community enrichment.

This flagship project, commissioned by Spelthorne Borough Council, was delivered by Tier 1 contractor Willmott Dixon, with architectural design by GT3 Architects, Passivhaus expert, Gale & Snowden and mechanical services delivered by CMB Engineering Ltd. As a central partner in the fire protection supply chain, BSB provided FSD-TD Series motorised fire dampers, helping ensure long-term compliance with building safety regulations.

BSB supplied nine FSD-TD motorised fire dampers, complete with fail-safe actuators, through Lindab Ltd (Cardiff). These dampers were installed by Borley Engineering Services Ltd (CMB Engineering Ltd), as part of the facility’s HVAC and passive fire protection package.

The FSD-TD Series is ideally suited to high-traffic public spaces like Eclipse, offering:

• Automatic fail-safe operation
• Low leakage performance tested to BS EN 1366-2
• Compact design, perfect for tight ceiling voids and plant rooms
• Third-party certification for full regulatory assurance
• Ideal for escape routes and high-risk zones in line with Approved Document B

Our team worked collaboratively with the M&E consultants and engineers to ensure all dampers were installed according to tested methods and fire strategy specifications – aligning fire safety with the project’s sustainability goals.

Leisure facilities like Eclipse welcome families, schools, and vulnerable users daily — making passive fire protection critical to safeguarding lives and reducing risk in the event of a fire.
