Project

Churchill Place, Canary Wharf

Project Overview

Project: HQ Refurbishment
Location: Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London
Sector: Commercial / Financial Services
BSB Products: Motorised Fire Dampers and Electro-Mechanical Damper Control Panel

The Project

Churchill Place has undergone a major programme of refurbishment designed to create a modern, flexible workplace supporting the changing requirements of its London workforce.

The wider programme has included the redevelopment of trading and investment banking floors, alongside significant upgrades to the building’s mechanical and electrical infrastructure.

The MEP Strategy

The wider refurbishment involved extensive building-services works across multiple levels of the Canary Wharf headquarters, including new and upgraded mechanical plant, HVAC infrastructure, FCUs, plant rooms and risers.

Alongside workplace improvements, the project has also focused on operational performance and sustainability, with upgrades to building management, ventilation and energy systems.

Within refurbishment projects of this complexity, changes to HVAC services must be carefully coordinated with the building’s fire strategy, particularly where ventilation systems interface with fire-resisting construction.

The BSB Solution

BSB supplied Motorised Fire Dampers, together with an Electro-Mechanical Damper Control Panel.

The EM Series provides hardwired control and monitoring of motorised fire dampers and can integrate with fire alarm systems. Individual damper status can be monitored at the panel, providing a straightforward means of controlling and identifying the operational position of connected dampers.

The combination of motorised fire dampers and dedicated control equipment provided a coordinated solution for this element of the building-services installation.

Supporting Complex Refurbishment

Major refurbishment projects present particular challenges for building-services and fire-safety coordination. New and existing systems must work together while ensuring that the intended fire performance of the building continues to be supported.

BSB’s involvement at Churchill Place demonstrates how appropriately selected damper and control solutions can be incorporated into complex MEP refurbishment projects, providing the required interface between ventilation services and passive fire protection.
